Ayurveda focuses towards attaining positive health and fulfilment in life through a healthy body, mind and soul. It places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health by paying close attention to balance in one’s life which includes aspects of our diet, thoughts, lifestyle (sleep, exercise), herbs and overall balance of life.

This month, we share with you a Ayurveda Blend that you can include in your daily regime.

Turmeric Golden Paste

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons raw turmeric paste
200 mls water
1⁄2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons Ghee or cold pressed Olive or Coconut Oil
Preparation:

Add the raw turmeric paste to the water in a pan. Heat gently and simmer over medium-high heat for 7 minutes, stirring constantly. You will notice a thick paste forming. If it gets too dry while cooking, you can add additional water.

Add pepper and oil at the end and stir to ensure all the ingredients are mixed properly. Allow to cool. Transfer into a glass air tight jar and put in fridge. This is good for 2-3 weeks.
Handy Hints:

    • Use this to make your Golden Milk, Turmeric Latte, smoothies.
    • Stir it into yogurt or add to your dinner plate as a condiment.
    • You can also add it into your pet’s dinner plate or your horse feed too.
    • Take 1-2 tsp on its own if you are able to every day for inflammation & general overall well-being.
    • Black Pepper: We need this as turmeric is absorbed poorly in the body. Piperine present in black pepper helps in its absorption.
    • Adding fats: like ghee or olive or coconut oil is another way to increase the absorption of turmeric in body.
    • We have always been in favour of using raw turmeric because of its unique constituents e.g. turmeric oil is one constituent which is lost when you process turmeric into a powder. Raw turmeric has such great aroma compared to powder.
    • You do not actually need anything to absorb curcumin if you are using raw turmeric. The reason is mother nature has already included an oil in it, “turmeric oil’. This is so good! Turmeric oil is around 6-9% of raw turmeric.
